Beware: An essay of sorts.
\nSo recently, when dabbling into live coding, and seeing almost nobody except regular listeners (to my shows) around, I decided to dig back into „how to promote stuff“.
\nAfter all, next to nobody knows I‘m also doing „this live coding thing“. And then, there is so much stuff I usually research when looking into topics. So much effort, and nobody benefits from it, because there hasnt been much exposure of it in the last few years? Eg. my old blog silently died a few years ago (4 years? 5 years?), and getting back on track took waaay too long.
Yes, this weblog is my current home for all my writings and ramblings, but I dont think most ppl know about it.
\nThis got me thinking and tinkering, about all the options to promote oneself, inherant possibilies with using other platforms, and in the end, I decided to do a lot more than I originally thought I‘d do. Thus, lets talk about my plans for all of this, the immediate future, as one may say \ud83d\ude42
\nOriginally, I only wanted to promote this lovely piece of live programming show, but – so many things are not working well as a live show, and while writing tutorials and how-tos are a good way for reference, showing things to you directly, in a self-contained format, does help a lot more.
\nMy thoughts went into things like:
\nWhich leads to more thoughts – what do persue?
\nMe thinks, its going to be several ventures.
One is, „classic“ self-contained videos on YouTube and maybe Vimeo, ie. tutorials, how-tos (eg. „x ways to achieve a ‚current song‘ feature for OBS“), but also podcasty-like, lengthy feature shows.
\nThe other, quite different formats within the live streaming „commmunities“. So, for once, the classic DJ shows are gonna continue, but are going to be slightly refined. I really want to do some kind of album feature thingy, eg. „listening session“, every few weeks. Maybe bi-weekly or on set dates. Plus, adding some pop-up shows here and there, cause I totally miss that .. just when this urge hits you, DO the show! DJing helps me to relax and unclutter my brain from unneeded garbage \ud83d\ude42
\nThirdly, some intermedia formats, for instagram, and other „shortish media“ (for want of a proper name).

One to talk about all that tech stuff, ie. web development, with WordPress, HTML 5, JavaScript, Usability, all that jazz that makes me tick and want to look further; esp. those „This is only a test“ committed by (Adam Savage‘s) Tested are stuck to the back of my brain, but also „The RTFM Show!“ by JayzTwoCents\nscreencasts – its a lovely format, with the option to enhance it with a live show, but not necessarly requiring one\nlive shows – as mentioned before, these are great, but not everything works as good as the other options do; could also be used for quick reports on progress, some news bulletin format-like show, random ramblings and rants („just chatting“), and so on\nco-programming – working on something, while a clock ticks away, and then doing a quick 10 – 15 recap, after each „burst“; there is a streamer on Twitch (SabrinaSchuh), who does exactly this with „co-authoring“, ie. doing 30 – 45 minutes of concentrated work on your own writing-related project .. this got me looking further in what other streamers do \ud83d\ude42\n(„social“) platforms – which are relevant to what kind of audience? Instagram is for immediate imagery, maybe a bit of music / announcements, simple educational stuff, Facebook is maybe best for event announcements, potentially for live streaming, maybe a bit of a classic page, but not much more; Twitter is .. well .. Twitter. Maybe move more towards Mastodon / GNU/Social, because the geeky / tech-savvy community seems to be lurking there (much more so)? And what about other video platforms (than Twitch, YT Live + FB Live)? Um zumindest eine Kiste optional zu machen, und die generelle Infrastruktur auf aktuelleren Stand zu bringen, wird das k\u00fcnftige DJ-/Workstation-Setup wie folgt aussehen:
\nMit der neuen Workstation wird das schon etwas \u00e4ltliche ThinkPad T520p in den Vorruhestand geschickt, d.h. zum alternativen Webradio-DJing-System umger\u00fcstet.
\nDie neue Workstation besteht aus einem Ryzen 7 3700X-Desktop-System, mit (noch) 16 GB RAM, 1 TB NVMe, und einer GTX 1660-Grafikkarte (MSI GTX 1660 OC).
\nAls OS ist ein Dualboot-System aus Kubuntu 20.04 (KDE Neo) und Manjaro geplant, evtl. auch Triple-Boot mit (Open) Mageia. Aktuell ist bereits Kubuntu 20.04 weitestgehend eingerichtet.
K\u00fcnftige Erweiterungen:
\n– Datengrab: 2x 24/7-geeignete Festplatten, RAID1, ab 2 TB (angepeilt:

ThinkPad P50, i7-6820HQ vPro, 32 GB RAM, 256 TB NVMe, ThinkPad-Dockingstation, Win 10 Pro. F\u00fcr das neue Setup kommt ein zus\u00e4tzlicher Monitor zum Einsatz (FHD, AMVA+). Hierbei wird das bisherige DJing-System (Internet DJ Console) in eine virtuelle Maschine (VirtualBox) verlagert; zus\u00e4tzlich wird Mixxx installiert und eingerichtet. OBS l\u00e4uft anschlie\u00dfend wie gehabt auf dem Notebook-Screen, und DJing erfolgt auf dem zweiten Monitor (in der VM).
\nMixxx aus dem simplen Grund, weil Internet DJ Console zwar super f\u00fcr die Radio-Automatisierung, aber echtes Mixing nur rudiment\u00e4r m\u00f6glich ist (Crossfade, Cue Up, Speed Change .. aber viel mehr auch nicht). Au\u00dferdem ist die Unterst\u00fctzung f\u00fcr DJ-Hardware zwar vorhanden, im Prinzip \u00e4hnlich wie mit Mixxx, weil IDJC auf dieselben Schnittstellen setzt (zumindest unter Linux / Unix), aber vieles nur sehr umst\u00e4ndlich oder durch viel Trial & Error zur Mitarbeit zu \u00fcberreden ist.
\nK\u00fcnftige Erweiterungen:
\n– SSD ab 480 GB, TBW ab 750 GB, auf Datacenter-Level, z.B. Seagate Nytro, Intel DC, usw.

Morgen, also eigentlich heute, d.h. Donnerstag, 18. M\u00e4rz 2021, werde ich den ersten Testlauf f\u00fcr meine neue Sendung namens Code of Dark Joy machen. Selbige ist spezifisch aufs Live Coding, also Programmierung, ausgelegt. Es wird dennoch Musik enthalten, da wir uns erstmal vornehmlich auf Themen wie „ein sch\u00f6nes Interface f\u00fcr und in OBS bauen“ und Artverwandtes besch\u00e4ftigen werden. D.h. prim\u00e4r, um Musik auf Twitch, YouTube Live und anderen Live-Video-Streaming-Plattformen zu senden.
\nF\u00fcr den Anfang habe ich geplant, erstmal an der Oberfl\u00e4che der neuen Sendung zu werkeln; vielleicht den cover „flow“ / Cover-Anzeige zusammenbauen, wor\u00fcber ich schon ein Weilchen gr\u00fcbele. Desweiteren eine schnelle Frage & Antwort-Runde a la „fragt mich irgendwas“. Und dabei wird nat\u00fcrlich fr\u00f6hlich d\u00fcstere Musik aufgelegt (wonach auch immer mir sein mag) \ud83d\ude42
\nZum Ende hin will ich dann r\u00fcberraiden zu DJ Hatemior, die donnerstags immer ihre Sendung "Day Drunk" macht, und gg 18 Uhr los geht (normalerweise 19 Uhr, aber dank dem Sommerzeitgekasper in den USA und Kanada, m\u00fcssen wir noch 2 Wochen ausharren, bis alles wieder parallel l\u00e4uft).
\nWenn alles halbwegs brauchbar funktioniert, werde ich das wohl in eine w\u00f6chtentliche Geschichte \u00fcberf\u00fchren – wobei ich allerdings nicht versprechen kann, dass die Sendung immer an einem Donnerstag stattfindet.
